We are proud to present the new kid on the block for the personal barrel space! We’ve developed a square barrel that doesn’t utilize any sort of glue. We wanted to utilize glass heads to allow the user to observe as the product ages. We think it also makes for a great conversation piece! The only adhesive used is a food grade silicone on the outside of the glass head to prevent leaks and evaporation between the glass and oak. The end grain is sealed with our locally sourced beeswax to further reduce evaporation. The side grain of the staves are left untreated to allow for the natural “breathing” of the oak, which is a critical part of the aging process and often prevented by smaller barrels completely covered in other finishes. We toast and char these barrels with the same type of Infrared Heater that we use for our larger barrels. The barrels are toasted to a Medium Toast and a #1 Char, this allows for the majority of the flavors extracted coming from the toast. So as not to overpower your spirit with excessive char. 4 to 6 weeks is all that’s needed to go from a corn liquor, moonshine, or even an already aged spirit. To one that has the equivalent of 3~5 years in a full sized barrel. These work well for aging a clear liquor and also for adding richness, flavor and smoothness to any aged whisky or bourbon. You can transform your 3~5 year whisky into something that will rival a 15 year or even an 18 year old spirit.
